02/01/11
We are proud to announce that Mark Gardner, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been named Principal, and that Stephan Jaklitsch Architects is now JAKLITSCH / GARDNER ARCHITECTS PC.

Mark joined the studio in 2004 and was named Senior Associate in 2005. He has proven to be critical to the success of the firm – guiding the design of many projects, overseeing the daily operations of the studio and working with Stephan to expand the firm’s scope to include larger urban studies and product design. Mark led the firm’s designs for the Prospect Park Gate Competition, the NYC DOT Bike Rack Competition (exhibited at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum) and competitions for new Art Centers in Beirut, Lebanon and Skibbereen Cork County, Ireland. Prior to joining the firm, Mark worked on many public and university projects and served as Project Manager for the Taipei Cultural Center in New York and Project Designer for the public infrastructure of the Philips Arena in Atlanta.

In addition to his contributions to the firm, Mark is heavily involved in the architecture community. He currently teaches at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his M.Arch, and was a contributor to Pamphlet Architecture 23 MOVE/Sites of Trauma (Princeton Architectural Press, 2003) and co-author of the firm’s monograph: Habits, Patterns, Algorithms (ORO, 2009). Mark serves as Business Development Chair on the Board of SUPERFRONT (an organization located in New York and Los Angeles that fosters the exchange between architecture and other disciplines by sponsoring exhibitions, panels, and publications) and is an Executive Committee Chair for NYCOBA, the New York Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA).

In his role as Principal, Mark brings his talent as a designer and his vast knowledge of building and construction management. He will continue to manage the firm’s operations and provide direction for both design and business strategy.
