SoHo Loft

New York, New York

The project is a 2,000 square foot apartment located in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The existing plan presented a large floor plate with windows along the east-facing wall and segmented private spaces to the west. The new design reconciles the client’s desire to have open space with the need for privacy and the utilization of natural light.

  • The single large living space was divided into separate “his and hers” seating areas with open access to new kitchen and dining areas. A library was added off of the main living area, framed by two custom-fabricated steel and reed glass pocket doors. The intimate space sits in contrast to large living areas and can be closed off for needed privacy. Walnut shelving wraps the back wall of the space, with a custom-designed daybed tucked to the left of the entry providing extra seating and storage.

The master bedroom is contained by a wall of blackened steel and antique mirror of the same design, with a large sliding glass and steel door separating the room from the main living space. The design maximizes the natural light from the east-facing windows. To create the impression of an inviting and light-filled master bath, the design balances silver travertine surfaces with cherry wood details.
